I have 99 Taurus Wagon.  Awesome car.  Every once in a while, only when I am in slow moving traffic or a similar situation where the engine is running warmer, the idiot light comes on and then goes off after a minute or two.  Almost like the temperature of the engine is tripping the light.  I don't think about it when the car is in for service, only when it happens.  Other than that, this car is awesome. Duratec V6 109k on it.  The engine is solid, course I do more than the average bear when it comes to maintenance on vehicles.

Any ideas?

thanks

cool site, i belong to the mopar one too, never knew about this one

Does the airbag light 'flash' in a sequence after about 30 seconds after the ignition is turned to RUN?  If so, count the flash code ..

Example: An LFC 32 is displayed as ..

  • flash flash flash - (two second pause)
  • flash flash - (five second pause)...
  • and will repeat ..
If there's no SRS light flash code, and only an occasional air bag light, or continuous, it would be very helpful to have the DTC (trouble code) stored in the ECS electronic crash sensor module.. If a DTC is stored, it will remain in memory for 254 key cycles...

Clockspring/sliding contact behind the steering wheel would be suspect, but with a code for direction would be a guess..
