Periodically, when I stop by 2001 Ford Windstar the emergency brake light come on. The emergency brake is handle is not pulled, but I think I can feel the brakes engaging . The ABS light is not on. This only occurs at slow seeds coming to a complete stop. The dealer who: 1) serviced the brakes before the problem started and 2) tried to fix the problem now wants to replace the $1000 control unit of the abs systems. I have my doubts because the problem started after the service of the brakes the first time, AND it was the same service tech both times. The only thing that supports their theory is that when I turn off the engine, and restart the car, the light goes off( which would seem to indicated an electronic malfunction). I might buy their theory more if the ABS light was coming on.

Any input appreciated.

Have had an issue with a 95 WS ABS, and my understanding of the brake system (non-proffesional) when the brake light goes on that indicates low fluid or an issue with the non-ABS parts of brake system. When the ABS light goes on that indicates problems with ABS sensors and controls. However, I am not sure if the pump unit would fault to the ABS or the Brake system. As a usual if the ABS controler fails it will set off the ABS light, as its fault feed back is thru the ABS light. By the way I was able to order an ABS controller and pump assembly from a junk yard off the net for under $175 including shipping. You could try these guys http://www.usedpartscentral.com/ or any others, try searchingh under auto recyclers, used auto parts as well as auto junkyards.
PS: Most of them seem to very good about returns, I had to send back the first unit I ordered and had not problems with a refund as they did not have another part available.

hey sound like low fluid in the master or the fluid switch in the resevoir is sticking.also cuold be the three wires going to the sensor are corroded or dirty.if the light comes back on dont shut the vehicle off give the resevoir a couple of good taps if the light goes off its the low fluid sensor in the resevoir.....
