Took the old heap to Frontier Ford this morning for a CEL on condition.  Turned out to be a bad O2 sensor says them.
So they also decided I should have a new sepentine belt, a new battery, new brake pads in the front and new rotors in the front.

Yeah sure, right.  The car has 230,000 miles on it and I'm the original owner (bought it at this dealership) and it probably isn't worth what they would have charged me for all of that.  I forgot to ask how much.  I can do that stuff myself OK though.

I let them replace the O2 sensor.
I'll let you know what the damages are for the scan and fix later.

WOW!  I am impressed.

$461.17 for the diagnose and replacement of (1) fmc f88z9f472 ab sensor.

Frontier (come on in suckers!) Ford in Santa Clara, CA if you want to get your Ford fixed reasonably.

OK, here goes.

I replaced the battery (it was 7 years old, DieHard) with another DieHard, $109.06 including tax.  Labor was about 30 minutes including driving to Sears and back home.

I replaced the serpentine belt, Goodyear, $30.99.
I replaced the front brake pads, PG, $43.99.

Labor about 2 hours.  Total cost including tax, the battery and two cans of brake cleaner was $199.27.

Ford lied about the rear brakes, there was 1/4 inch of brake lining left on each shoe.

That's the whole story.  I figure I saved at least $600 by doing that stuff myself, maybe more the way Ford gouges their customers.
