1993 F150, has spark, has new fuel filter, does not start, almost acts like it will start with excessive cranking but does not start.
symptoms started to stall out in traffic at low speed, or would stall out when automatic transmission shifted from first to second.
tried to start after turned off overnight will start today

Does it fire at all?  If you hold the gas to the floor, will it fire-up?

Have you checked the fuel pressure?
If it is low it could be a bad fuel pump of fuel pressure regulator.

I finally got it to start after minutes of cranking with the gas pedal depressed off and on. when it does fire up it idles great. put a sudden load on it like advancing from a stop sign and it starts to choke unlees you slowing depress the gas to advance but still acts like the motor dropped out when it shifts fisrt to second depending on the speed of advancment.

I got it to care care place the technicians said certainly it was the Throttle Postion Sensor, just replaced the TPS and I now cannot get it to start no matter how much I crank. So much for that expert advice.

I do smell fuel after cranking for what seems like forever.

No I have not done a fuel pressure check yet. I can try that in the morning.

I found the answer to the problem.

The fuel pressure reading showed a 40 PSI and the system held the pressure for over an hour

Since I had fuel and the motor would start with excessive cranking, I turned my attention to the ignition side of the system

I had checked for spark but started to doubt if the strength of the spark on inital cranking was strong.

So I swapped out the coil with great results. The motor started with less than 2 seconds of cranking.

In the end it was an ignition problem caused by a weak coil. Now the motor starts with ease and runs great
