I have a 95 Ford Thunderbird. Doing the fromt breaks for the first time. What kind of tool do I use to removed the lower caliper bolt, so I can swing it up and take out the pads. It isn't a bolt, it has a STAR shape??

Thanks.

torx bit if its like an allen bolt you want inverted you can pick them up at your local parts store or at walmart in the hardware section walmart is about the cheapest route for a pretty decent set

Some calipers need both bolts removed to come off easily. To push the pads apart you'll need a pad spreader (or a large C-clamp if you're very careful) - carefully crack loose the bleeder screw first to allow opening while pushing the piston back with the pad spreader and eliminating backward pressure which can damage brake parts on newer cars - close the bleeder as soon as you stop turning the spreader screw. Add some fresh fluid when you're done. You just learned the better way - it reduces chance of damage and adds fresh fluid (which extends fluid life). Bleed the brakes when you're done if you think you opened the bleeder screw too long.
