I recently purchased a 1991 base model bird with the unworthy 3.8 turd of an engine hey the car has 76000 miles on it and i only paid a hundred dollars for it. How much work does it take to put a 5.0 in it

3.8's were only turds for one reason. They needed steel sleeves in the oil pump housing so as not to wear out the oil pump early. It's a lot more work, to put in another engine (likely need to swap 302 oil pan) and wiring and possibly transmission, than it would be to have a good machine shop slip in some sleeves for the oil pump on the 3.8. Plus the sleeves might be cheaper. Of course, the 302 is a better balanced engine in general, and the parts are easier to get. Sounds like a great deal on the car at any rate.

Hello

First You will need a 302Ho with it wiring harness. 91 to 93 Thunderbird 302Ho Engine mounts.
Including the Exaust Manifolds.
Yes, the double hump oil pan.
Yes, the 302 will bolt up to your AOD from the 3.8. You can have it rebuilt for the V-8, front clutch mostly.

I have a 351W, AOD & 3.90 rear gear in my 90 T-bird.
I race it on a 1/2 mile asphalt oval.

Paul
