about  three weeks ago I cleaned the engine in the van at the car wash..the next morning the wife went to start it and it would start and run  (off of idle ) but as soon as you let up on the pedal it would stutter and die.. later in the day it started and ran fine..I chalked it up to a little more humidity than usual ( the car wash and early morning dew ).. truck has since ran fine logging about 3000 miles since the incident..this morning we had  a large amount of humidity with dew on the van..it would start and die again..so I have a problem with moisture..I'll be checking the plug wires and checking to see if this beast has a dist cap.

Any other areas I should look at??

Thanks for helping..

So, if you just crack the throttle open, the van runs 'smooth'? Also, what engine/mileage?

With the throttle 'slightly' cracked just enough to get a smooth idle (or close to idle as possible) unplug the IAC connector.. You should see a significant RPM drop, if not, chances are the IAC is bad/plugged/stuck..
