I have a 99 Ford Escort and the air conditioner has started acting up. We took it to someone in order to check it and they are telling us that there is no electricity going to the compressor. How do I double check this to find out?

Okay, the compressor isn't kicking in and that's why we took it somewhere for them to check it. They said there is no electricity going to it. My fiance took the dash apart and is trying to find how the three wires hook in. One of the wires is live and the other two are dead. So, I am not the expert of automotive that he is, I think he is wondering which of these wires should be hot and which ones aren't supposed to be. Does that make sense? We found the wiring schematic for this car but we really need the other end of it. If anyone can help I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!
Hannah

Okay, I checked the ohms to the compressor and it has about 3.5-3.6 going through it, but the clutch will not engage on the compressor. What does this mean? My low line reads in the red on the gauge (that I got with a refill kit for the refrigeration). Does this mean that the compressor is bad if I have this amount of ohms going to the compressor? And it still won't kick in.

There is a pressure switch on the accumilator that maybe open, causing the compressure clutch not to work. You can bypass it to get compressure to come on.

I had this problem with my 98. When I took it to the shop they found that a sensor box( I cant remember the name) was bad. It is located under the hood not the dash. The part can only be purchased at the dealer. The dealership said that they sell alot of them. I wrecked my 98 ZX2 4 weeks ago and bought a 2003 ZX2 and cant find the paperwork for the repair. I do have the wiring and troubleshooting tree from the tech if you give my a fax number I will send that to you.

I am sure you have this figured out by now, but its the CCRM underneath the Air Filter box.
