My personal ride is the 2005 Ford Focus ST. Decided to register today after driving to the airport and thinking how much I still love driving the Focus ST. It''s tight at 65,000 miles with no rattles no squeaks. It looks and drives brand new. And I''ve had zero costs beyond regularly scheduled maintenance. The ride and handling balance is beautiful. It cuts and thrusts with verve. I can pick a line and the Focus tracks perfectly. The on-center feel and steering is so much more linear and direct than the major competition. I could afford a bigger, more powerful car, but love light sporty front drivers. The 2.3 liter in the ST has great torque and the perfect sporty sound. The brakes are strong and well-balanced. I''ve used the anti-lock brakes enough in panic stops (darn freeway driving) to testify to the ability of the Focus ST to stop as well as it accelerates. Ford knows how to build reliable driver''s cars that are a joy to drive and still affordable. The Focus ST is just a thrill. I love the beefy leather wheel and the chair height seats. I''ve driven hundreds of miles at a time and still been comfortable. That''s remarkable in a C-class "economy" car. At 6'' 1" and 200 lbs, none of the competitors offer me both the legs and comfort. The Corolla has no sense of direction and the Civic''s low seats just don''t provide the long distance touring comfort that the Focus provides. All this and I''ve averaged more than 30 MPG over the life of the car. That''s pretty remarkable in that its spent a lot of time at 70-75 MPH. It will turn 38 MPG at 55 MPH but my routes are more Interstates west of the Mississippi or in town. I needed to share how much the Focus still makes me grin with someone. The Focus is deceptive. The styling is purposeful but lurking under the economy car is a credible front wheel drive sport sedan. I''m waiting for the new rush of Ford sporty cars in 2010. I expect great things from both the new Focus and the new Fiesta.

My wife''s new Milan is impressive too, averaging 27.7 MPG with the same 2.3 liter in a bigger car.

My daughter''s I4 5-speed manual Cougar is still reliable at 96,000 miles, again with no service required beyond regularly scheduled work. (We did have to repair the CD player, but an exploding pop can probably occasioned that minor repair.) She "inherited" the Cougar from my wife and will be ready for a new Cougar or Capri when she graduates from college in 2010.

Thanks Ford.
