We are having our first kid and I am looking at an Escape for my wife.  She likes it because it is smaller.  Anyways I have been looking around at a local website http://www.chicagolandauto.com.  I have noticed their are a lot of them for sale and this is just a small website, so I could only imagine what the big websites have.  Are these good build reliable cars?  Any thoughts would be great as we are looking in the next couple of months.  What year would you recommend?  Or would new be better.

I have an 01. I bought it last year and so far have replaced 3 bearings, brakes, wire caps, 6 ignition coils, pvc valve. Am now saving for repair of the ABS system, rear differential and stabilizer links. I did a full tune up when I bought the truck and have kept up on regular maintenance since I've had it. The truck looked very clean and well kept when I purchased it, no problems for 6 months, then it all started.  Read closely about this infamous transmission, as alot of folks have had problems with them, even fairly new ones. Oh one last thing I'm on my 2nd rear window as my first two blew out, one in my driveway and the other today at my husbands work. Thank goodness no one was hurt. No one has a clue how or why this happened, but I have read online that this is not something uncommon but mainly I've read it about the explorers. Good luck should you choose this vehicle.
