On my 95, I could not find an aftermarket starter so went to Ford, paid their 100+bucks and installed it. I have had no problems as yet. Mazda may be giving you used parts or an aftermarket rebuild. The starter, as Ford told me is a high tourque starter. Carl.

well alot of starters get fried from too much cranking, Plus in the engine department the starter is exposed to high heat from the exhaust, My start on my 83 mustang has lasted me 5 years once. Its all depends on how they are used. stop and starting is really hard on them, Or if youre car doesnt want to start and youre engine keeps cranking that causes the starter to heat up and fail.
