Brake pedal to the floor! - 12/18/2007 5:01:14 PM    WindstarWorkHorse   Posts: 15 Score: 0 Joined: 9/17/2007 Status: offline I have a 1996 Windstar.  Early morning and cold out, in the teens. I was spining through the snow in my driveway and stepped on the brake pedal.   The brake pedal went nearly to the floor.  The res. is low on fluid but I don't see any fluid on the ground.  I filled the res and pumped the brake.  It doesn't pump up hard.  The fluid is slightly lower after I filled and pumped.  Anyone have and idea of the problem?  Or, where the fluid is going? Check the lower portion of the rear drum for fluid leak. RE: Brake pedal to the floor! - 12/20/2007 8:55:26 AM    WindstarWorkHorse   Posts: 15 Score: 0 Joined: 9/17/2007 Status: offline I found the leak.  The line to the right rear brake passes through the frame near the muffler.  It's leaking there.  If you pump enough brake fluid it has to show up some place!  I'm not looking forward to replacing it.  It will be the domino effect.  As I change one line I'll disturb another.  Do they sell pre bent brake lines for Windstars or will I need to buy a bender and DIY the bending my self?  Would it be more cost effective to have a brake shop do the work? As for cost effective.....It is the holidays. Do you need the van fixed as soon as possible? The new straight lines at auto parts stores will have to be used, some are made to be easily bendable.
