1962 ford fairlane sedan/ How to get most power?

ImportMuscle -> 1962 ford fairlane sedan/ How to get most power? (1/6/2008 7:02:35 PM)

The ford family is a bit new to me, so bare with me.  I thinking of purchasing a 62 fairlane sedan, the goal that I'm looking for is pure power, and to use it for racing if that is possible.  What tips can you guys in terms of which engine to go with,  am I crazy for wanting to drag with it?

Thanks guys!!

In '64 The Fairlane Thunderbolt WAS a factory drag car. A 351 windsor small block would give you phenomenal power-to-weight - hook it up to a trans. with less gears for dragging (since you lose momentum with every shift). A 3 or 4 speed would be good enough - an automatic transmission helps reduce shift overpowering and loss of traction. Try a good locker rear,  unibody support rails and a support bar for the shock towers if you want to stick money in.
