I have a 2001 Sport Trac w/ completely deteriorated rubber body mount bushings (the rubber crumbles in my fingers)...these hold the cab to the frame...and are therefore potentially very unsafe. To inspect these look for 6...3 per side...rubber bushings on the frame holding the cab area down. When I took it to Ford the service tech of ten years said he had not seen this issue before but agreed it should not have happened considering it is a non-maintenance item that should last many more years than they have. I have seen this problem repeated on just about every other 2001-2002 I have stopped to inspect and also by others on several other blogs. Please check your bushings as this issue has not yet raised the attention of those at Ford who have quite a potential liability on their hands.

I haven't seen this on any Sport Tracs we have had in our dealership.  I've been with ford for 35 years, whence the name.  What area of the country are you in?

I have a 2001 Explorer Sport. I think I have a similar problem. The whole area around the rear cab mount bushing has rusted, and now I hear banging metal on metal slapping noise when I go over a bump.  I'll look a little close to see if the bushing it self has deteriorated....
