Hello. I need to replace my stator/pickup inside the distributor of a 1994 5.8L. I've pulled the distributor and I've tapped out the pin holding the gear at the bottom of distributor shaft as well as the pin holding the sleeve above the lower gear. Still the gear doesn't budge. Is the gear pressed on or would some mild persuasion with a small hammer be the ticket? Any tips or thoughts appreciated.
Thanks. Jim

Yes some "mild persuasion" is in order, also use merricloth to clean the lower shaft before and some penitrating oil also a good idea.

Yes they can be real stubbron to remove , I have seen guys crack the gear an bugger up the shaft wailling on them. If Iam doing the job for someone else , I opt for a reman unit you get a re-built dist with no slop in it plus a new pick-up an its under warranty to boot ,,,,
