97CVPI -> protective coating on throttle body plate. (2/2/2008 2:09:36 PM)

Hey, i have a 1997 crown victoria P71 and i was wondering if spraying throttle body cleaner in the throttle body and on the plate will affect anything, because there was a Attention sticker saying not to use cleaner because of some coating on the throttle body plate. I saw this sticker after i had already sprayed the throttle body. Does anyone know?

You are more than likely safe if you sprayed throttle body cleaner and not carburetor cleaner.  In 97, carb cleaner was the only spray cleaner widely available and it would remove the coating disturbing the air flow.

What is the protective coating made of.  I sprayed my 2003 throttlebody  with brake cleaner back in the summer to clean it up, and ever since then it whistles.  Does the protctive coating have and performance benefits?  I added a throttlebody spacer the next week which whistles anyway.  I like the sound of the whistle...kinda sounds like a turbo.

The coating helps control and smooth intake air flow. Can make a difference.
