Have a '96 Contour with 146,000Km(85,000miles).For the last year or so it has started well and for a short period, runs well and then it starts to "short out" or ,as I call it Kangaroo jump.At very low revs I can keep it going, and limp home, and the next day may be fine for awhile and then it starts again.Had the fuel filter changed ,had the jets cleaned, the coil exchanged, spark plugs and cables changed for new ones. The Master Mechanic said it needed a new air/fuel sensor($600).My present mechanic said he had cleaned the MAF and it was OK.Now he says that the problem all boils down to the Computer, and he will look for a reasonably priced one($700retail)BUT there is no Guarantee that a new Computer will cure the problem!!!hard to explain Kangaroo Jumping---Jerky driving??
