Hello all... I have a 99 Escort with a 2.0 that will not start. My mom drove home and parked in the driveway normally and could not get the car to start the following morning. I had not done a tuneup since purchasing the car 10k miles ago, so I installed new plugs and wires along with a fuel filter and air filter and an oil change. The car still will not start so I tested the spark, seems ok, tested the fuel pressure, its in spec too, and tested the compression, which is healthy as well. Out of ideas, I decided that perhaps I got enough spark to test ok, but not enough to actually run the engine, so I also replaced the coil pack. At this point I have no other ideas to go on, everything seems fine and the engine turns over at a fine speed, so I don't know what to think. Are these cars plagued with anything that I haven't checked yet? What do you think I should do? Also, btw, there is no engine code and there hasn't been one, so unless the light is burned out and my tester is broken, the car doesn't know what's wrong with itself either. I can smell gas and starting fluid from the exhaust while I'm turning it over, so I'm pretty confident that I have sufficient fuel pressure and there's nothing wrong with the valvetrain, cuz its pumping gas vapor out the exhaust, so...   any ideas for me to look into at all? HELP! Thanks a lot.

just a guess...check your main fuses, and look for loose, bent,or corroded pins in your connectors.Seems like wiring issue.Do you have a Haynes/Chilton's manual?

Heres a thought about the car I think it could be the fuel injectors. 1 of the could be bad and will not start the car. also it could be the electrical pack, which that is my term for it, it took the place of the distibutor cap, I had a car that I change them both at different times and thats what it was.

Just to ensure it is not a fuel problem, spray some carburetor cleaner into the air intake as someone tries to start it and see if it runs for a few seconds. If it does, you may have an injector problem.

I seem to be having the same problem that you are. I was wondering if you had gotten it fixed somehow or what. If you could please let me know asap that would be great.
