PCM Failure do to Wire Corrosion...

caper74 -> PCM Failure do to Wire Corrosion... (3/7/2008 9:29:43 PM)

Hi.  My 2003 Escape XLT 4x4 just die while driving down the road.  When I got it towed to the dealership they told me the PCM was shot do to corrosion on a connector in the wiring harness near the kickplate.  They went on to say it was caused by the salt and moisture evaporating inside the vehicle.  Long story short my extended warranty will not cover it and its $1300 to fix.  Has anyone heard of any recalls or a way I can convince them its a defect not an act of god?

The earlier escapes had leakage in a front pilar that allowed water into the body cavity behind the drivers side panel area where the accessory fuse box is located. It has in the past created intermitant electrical issues, usually with radio and lighter not working etc.

Ford did make some changes and it "should" have been included in a 03 model but I'm not sure of the mod date. I don't see a TSB on alldata.

Hay good find! It's a warrantable item too if you are still in the warranty period if not...[:@]

Just out of curiousity, I wonder if this leaking water has anything to do with my intermittent problem on my 01 escape...my drivers side lowbeam headlight only works when it wants to.
