ive had my Taurus for a little over a year now, its a 98 SHO.  nice car, except for one little problem, a while back my service engine light had come on and it was kinda missin here and there when i drove it down the road but nothing too big.   at first i thought it was the fuel pump but when i took it in it they said one of the ...i think ignition coil... had gone bad.  it was some kind of coil.  anyways $1500 and 4 coils later, my car still isn't fixed.  when i drive it i can watch the RPM's flucuate basically like its not getting any gas.   going uphill i cant break 20mph, down hill is a little easier.  im just wondering if anyone would know what the porblem could be before i go and drop more money into this car...thank you

You don't mention if the plugs have been replaced.  I worked on a 2000 SHO about 4 months ago for a friend of mine.  Basically same issue.  Check engine light, missing and no :GIDDY-UP".  He took it to the Dealer to get checked.  Dealer said he had bad ignition coils.  At $200 per coil plus labor, he said "NO THANKS" and brought it to me to look at.  I had the same problem on my 2000 3.0 24V and fixed it with a let of plugs.  So I figured plugs are cheaper and needed replaced anyways.  Well, $20 worth of standard BOSCH Platimun plugs, and he was up and running again.
