I am wanting to install my 12s into my escape and ive hit a roadblock. A buddy said that I would need a special tool to get the head unit out. I need to get it out so I can hardwire the rca's to the speaker outs. I have the line level output, I just do not want to break anything. He said the dash was one peice then explained that the two holes on either side of the cd player were a tool you could use to pull it. If you have any idea what this tool is or any good tips, please let me know. Just incase here is my email address. Here's a few pics .. The radio removal tools are available at some of the aftermarket parts vendors for about 5-10.00 or so, as well as on the tool trucks ect... You can even make a set.. They work by being installed just far enough (about 1/2") to feel and hear a 'click' as they're inserted into the release tabs.. Then you gently 'spread them' outwards to release the tabs and pull the radio out.. The key is to not install the tools too deep, just into the release latches..
