I have a 96 5.0 that I have replaced the fuel pump and filter  about 3 weeks ago. My wife was driving it the other day and it just died. After sitting for 45 minutes it started. I was driving last week and it died and I was able to  get it started, drove the rest of the way home and before I got in the drive it died again. I thought that maybe it needed plugs and wires so I have replaced all but one plug and tried to start it but it still will not start. I am getting fuel at the rail and now do not know what else to check. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Tell  me about the  "fuel @ the rail" .......I have an 02 sport that ran fine every 2 wks I started it. Now it only starts w/a shot of startting fluid. I figured it has moisture buildup in the tank. I needed to find out if there's a way to see if the fuel pump works , under the hood,w/o disconnecting the fuel filter and seeing if the lines squirted gas.  Thanks

On the rail on the 96 explorer there is a test port on  the left side, unscrew the cap, turn the key on and press the pin and if the pump is working you will have fuel at the test port, wear safety glasses. My problems where electrical in the fuse box. Hope this helps. Curt

Maybe the '02 has a similar setup. I'll look.
