I just took my 2001 F250 v10 triton 6.8L crew cap longbed on a camping trip. I was pulling a 5000lb camp trailer and it just worked it to death. Is it really that much of a dog or is their something I can do to get the power needed and expected? I love the truck and want to keep it but it needs to be able to pull the load.

I have a 99-f250 v10 super duty. What kind of gear ratio do you have in your axel? I would suggest getting some kind of aftermarket work done. I have a chip, intake, and throttle body spacer, a cat back and I really made a difference. I tow a 13000-pound fifth wheel camper. The only time I have a problem is climbing big long hills. I go from 60 to 45 mph. The next thing I am going to do is put headers on soon to wake up the engine because the stock exhaust manifolds are very restrictive. Hope this helps! Thanks for the response. Question, what is a chip, intake & throttle body spacer? I am also not familiar with a "cat back". The only thing I have done thus far is put a K&N filter in it. Are there any side effect to doing any of the things you have suggested? Is your truck rated to pull that big of a fifth wheel? I am not sure what the gear ration is. I am not very truck savvy.

A chip reprograms your trucks computer to run better and give you more power. An intake is your air filter. I have an air aide complete intake which replaces the whole intake. The cat back system is a new bigger exhaust from the catalytic converter. The only problem I have with it all is that I can spin my tire a lot if I want too. I also have their air aide one inch throttle body spacer which helps with air to fuel mixture in return gives you more power. My truck has 4.30 in the rear and front which allows me to pull up to 14000 pounds. If you have any more questions let me know.

More questions. What kind of a chip did you use and what was the approximate cost? Is your truck an automatic? Did you put the chip in yourself? I talked to my mechanic today and he said I could expect an extra 50hp with the chip. Does the use of the chip require a torque converter for the transmission? Is your truck a 4x4? Mine is. I am excited to see there are things I can do to improve the power. It is my work truck and already has my sign painted on it so I really want to keep the truck.

I have a hypertech 3 programmer it cost me around $320. As for putting in the chip yourself, it is very easy to put it into you diagnostic port under your dash by your steering wheel. It takes about 20 to 30 minutes to install. You can get up to 50 hp depending what setting you have the chip put on. You ether have settings for 89 octane or 91 octane. If you have an automatic, you already have a torque converter in your transmission and if you have a manual transmission than you do not have to worry about it. Yea my truck is an automatic I also have the shift firmed up by using the programmer. My truck is a 4x4 and I tell you what all of the things I have done made a huge difference. The next thing that I am going to do is put a shift kit in my transmission and headers on my truck with a full three and half-inch exhaust from down pipe to tip. In addition, changing the y pipe helps too but if you are not getting headers, it might not be worth the money. I am still trying to find out if it will make a difference with out getting headers. It sounds like you are on the right track. Hope this helps you out?

F Y I the y pipe well make a difference check your y pipe to see if it necks down form 2 1/4 to 1 1/2 most do you can get a y pipe fix for about 80.00 on e bay if you do not change the y pipe the headers want help alot/ i have a f250 2004 4x4 5.4 3.73s it necks down to / i am allso looking into a programmer to

You have a better highway gear than I do. This will give you better fuel mileage than I. It only affects how much you can tow efficiently. Meaning that your truck will work a little harder to get up to speed and maintaining speed with a trailer. All of the parts that we talked about will help a lot with everything. It does make a big difference.
