"We thought you might be interested in hearing a presentation by Ford on the 2005 Ford GT.

Matthew Zaluzec from Ford Motor Company will be at Northwestern University School of Engineering during Ford Engineering Week. He will present on "Creating a High Performance Super Car: The 2005 Ford GT" on Thursday, May 20 from 5:00 - 6:00 pm with reception following. The event is free and no registration required.

Abstract: In order to preserve the original styling of the Lemans winning 1966 Ford GT40 vehicle, a host of new and innovative technologies were employed in the design, development and manufacture of the production Ford GT vehicle.

The GT's impossibly tight production schedule necessitated new ways of doing things-ways that may become industry standard for future vehicle programs. These innovative ideas range from an all aluminum space frame comprised of extrusions, castings and several stampings, new joining and assembly technologies to meet performance targets for static and dynamic body stiffness to the first-of-its-kind "ship in a bottle" fuel tank design.
