Hello, I have a 1989 ford Tempo that I need to replace the stator assembly inside the distributor. When the manager at Shucks sold it to me he said it was a simple fix, all I need to do is pull the distributor cap and rotor off, unplug and unbolt the old assembly, slide it up off of the shaft, slide the new one down the shaft, plug in and bolt it down, put the rotor and cap back on correctly and I'd be good to go. BUT! There happens to be a plate on the shaft preventing me from getting to the stator. How do I get the plate off? I tried hiring a mobile mechanic but he didn't know what the heck I meant when I said stator, but wanted to charge me $50 an hour plus .50 for mileage to come look. I could use some guidance please if not on how to do it, then could someone point me to a good mobile mechanic in Snohomish County, Washington? Thanks, Angelia

On a 89 model , I would suggest just replacing the entire Dist. with a REMAN unit . I know they are a tad more then the pick-up. but if your not careful you can break the gear in half. plus the new one you wont have any excessive play in it -- just a option
