nygiantsfan012 -> Windstar AC trouble (6/18/2008 12:05:33 PM)

Hey all.  I am having trouble with the Air Conditioning in my 1998 Windstar GL.  The AC blows ice cold in the front zone however when I turn the blower on for the rear, the air is not diverted to the vents in the ceiling.  Only hot hot air blows out of the bottom vents in the back.  So basically I have cold air in the front and hot in the back.  When this first started happening, it was intermittant.  Once in a while the air would divert to the top vents and be cold.  Now it doesn''t happen at all.  I tested the psi through the low pressure port and it''s fine at 45 psi.  I had removed the panel near one of the bench seats in the rear and was able to manually pull on the mechanism to divert the air to the top vents but it won''t stay there on its own.  Is this a simple fix?  Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have the same problem, and can''t seem to get any info on it. Only when I removed the dash panel to inspect the AC controls, I found on the REAR hot /cold selector switch, the one far right, there are two vac lines going to it. The white line is fine and in tact, but the black one is cut. It''s only and 4-5 inches long and not attached to anaything. Is this the way it''s supposed to be or not. This guy rigged something shoddy on one switch which I had to fix. I had a broken leg when it tore up and couldn''t fix it. I regret haveing to have my wife take it to him, but anyway, what''s done is done, and now I need to find a solution for the back air. I Can not find a diagram anywhere for the vacuum lines. If anyone has one for a 98 Windstar I''d appreciate if greatly for an email of it.

when you push in on the vacume valve put your fingeer over the port where the line goes & if it doesent stay there thats your problem..its worth a try
