IAT Sensor Orientation

Simple question. What is the proper orientation for the IAT Sensor? When I took the air plastic thing off, it was sideways so the air would hit the plastic. After cleaning it with MAF Sensor cleaner, I screwed it back in but positioned it so the air would hit the little sensor piece.

I''m not sure which way is correct? It would seem if its sideways, the wind would hit the surrounding plastic and it might not be as efficient, but on the other hand, it may help protect it from dust and dirt.

Here is a picture of how it was when I took off the big black air piece.

Thats wrong in the pic. The air has to hit the sensor directly
