Ok,
the Freestyle lost a pump from what I can gather. I have no fuel on the rail under the hood when cranking. On occasion I can smack the fuel tank and get the engine to fire and run for about 20 seconds before it stalls. Now, the fuel level is low (about 1/8th tank) which the wife never does to the truck. I dropped a gallon in to be sure the gauge was not reading off but that did not help.

I looked up the parts online on a ford parts website and found there to be two fuel pumps????

I imagine one is an intank pump to transfer fuel from one side of the tank to the other, since there is a big hump for the exhaust and for AWD models, the driveshaft.

My question is should I try putting 5 or more gallons into the tank and see if it fixes the problem? If it does the side to side (if I am assuming correctly) pump has failed. The parts site shows $200 for the main pump and $80 for the other. I''d hate to replace the more expensive pump only to have the problem return the next time the tank runs low.......
