hey , I hear Ford has a new plug up-date on the 5.4 L . Engine's, I guess the threads are longer so they will stay in the head , PT# AGSF22WM

yes they seem to be better, did you know the spark plug socket for the 2004 and up trucks take a different size spark plug socket and the only supplier selling it is snap on for about 80 dollars canadian crazy price

YEa !!!! I know , it dont seem that long ago we went from most of the plugs being a 13/16 " to a 5/8 ",,, but even then they didnt rob us,, O'well[sm=bs.gif],,, I know sometimes I use ask the Tool Guy where his Mask An Gun was......

i dont think it is worth 80 dollars but when only one place is selling it they can charge what they want they should of left the size 5/8 or 13/16 they didnt need to change the size and look at all the problems

the size is for 2004 and up Ford TRITON 5.4L V8, is a 9/16", 6-Point

Suuuure, they do something now after swearing that there is not a problem with them. Mine blew out (pass side, 3rd one back) this summer and they were no help. The dealer helped me where they could but I still ate a 700.00 repair bill. Oh well....

Well, I have an intersting update from my blown plug adventure:

I just had to go back to the shop as my #3 was mis-firing. They pulled the plug and lo and behold: The insert came out with the plug!!!! Now, I would imagine that these SHOULD stay put even if someone were to do a spark plug chance, huh? It was also interesting to find that the bottom of the plug was melted away. They are now talking about a head replacement. After doing a little bit of research, I found that you are not supposed to use a stainless steel insert in the aluminum heads on the Ford 5.4L motors. Anyone want to guess what my insert is? Apparently, the head expands and contracts at a differing rate than the insert, thus loosening up, and not allowing the plug to stay seated and dissipate the heat buildup or function properly. Now I am faced with having the truck, my main driver and how I make money, down for who knows how long. I am planning on pressing them into paying for the repair as they were the ones that used the incorrect insert to begin with. Anyone else have this happen? By the way, this was a Ford dealer too.
