I have a '90 Ranger, 4.0L V6 that is running hot. The needle is almost to the line at the end of the "Normal". It has been 95+ the past few days, but this is still pretty hot. My mechanic suggested putting a new fan drive and thermostat in. That seems reasonable, but I wanted to see if anybody else had or knew of this problem. The radiator is full and the AC is off, just got the oil changed and I can't think of anything else.

Hard to say with out seeing the vechile , but yes by the info you are giving its running hot ,, could be a bad sender , could be a thermostat sticking , not opening all the way , could be debri in the fins of the Rad. blocking air flow, loose fan belt. { Iam not sure why he suggested the fan drive needed replace } Normal if the fan drive is not working it will heat up like when your setting at a red lite , or going thru the drive thru window , From lack of air flow across the RAD. Once you get over like 35MPH going down the road theres enough air going thru RAD. to keep things cool , . This is nothing to put off you should get it looked at ASAP . Or you could end up with a very expenise repair like a blown head gaskit , cracked head , bad things can occur

you gotta read between the lines ,,, thats like the one post , car was towed , they said the "THINGY" was broke , cost $400.00 , wanted to know if anyone had heard of that before, I was going to shoot a reply , but I was afraid I might not be able to post here again--- hey do we got a smiley face that says -- THINGY ??,,,,,,,,,, Back in High school I dated this girl her THINGY ,,,,, Oh Wait wrong forum

Careful Ram, I know...fan clutch...hope they know there are 2 types and best to get it from Ford.
