I have a 2002 Windstar and occasionally the brake and ABS light come on.  there is no rhyme or reason for this happening.  I recently took it on a trip and drove about 6oo miles and about the last 100 miles it came on.  Next time I get in the van it is off and it may be a couple days later it will come on again.  Any suggestions as to what it might be.

Check the wheel sensors and control module for cracks and possible moisture entering as well as brake fluid level.

Wheel sensors will be on the rear of the backer plate for the drums and dust sheild for the rotors with two wires. The comtrol module will be mounted to the hydralic pump, follow the brake lines from the master cylinder. The control module will be the plastic assembly mounted the casted pump.

Most likely the module, but you are better off getting a code first. The common code is for the power relay which is part of the module.
