Greetings and thanks for the replies. I have a 1991 f-350. 7.3 diesel. I recently repaired a leaking fuel line by splicing in a section of hose. Since then I''ve had some difficulty starting the truck. I thought it might be because of air in the system. It does start but with difficulty. I took it to a repair shop and they tell me they want to change the "Diesel injection pump ". A $600.00 part plus 10 hours labor. The truck had no prior history of starting difficulty before I replaced the line. Could this have caused that pump to go bad or could they be mistaken? If that pump is bad wouldn''t the truck not start at all? What are some other symptoms of a bad Diesel injection pump? Thanks!

A failing injection pump can make for a harder than normal startup that can be temp sensitive, or after a longer sit time.. You may also see excessive emissions or ''puffing'' from the tailpipe on a hard acell. or a high raised RPM stationary. A clear tube installed in the line can/may reveal air, but if the pump is weak, or original, it maybe time to change it out.. A reman. fuel injection pump should be about half of the price you posted, a little higher if they add to the purchase cost, but the labor time quoted is way off..
