Howdy,

I''m Nelson....a USAF officer stationed in west texas........have a 2001 F250 4 x 4 (actually converted and it runs off of Veggie Oil....runs great).

Anyway....driving home from the deer lease....noticed that the OD "OFF" light began to flash.....pulled over, reg the owner''s manual, turned the engine OFF/ON....it reset, but within a few moments (like the first shift), the light came back on.

I know that the OVERDRIVE still works....i could press the button, and you notice a definite shift and change in the RPMs (increase).....and after I press the OD button again, the RPMs shifted down, but the "OFF" button still remained on.

Optimum cruise for me on the HWY is around 63 MPH (should be somewhere around 1550ish RPMs), but in this case....it was around 2200-2400 RPMs.....

Any ideas...

Mucho thanks...

vr

Nelson

Welcome to the site Nelson..

The best thing to do would be to have someone read the powertrain trouble code with a scanner for better direction.. The OD lamp flash/ON is indicating a pending trouble code.. Could be the TCC clutch solenoid (torque converter clutch) circuit or connector issue if you lose OD selection,  or as simple as the wire/s running up the selector lever rubbing through on the column.. With the lamp flashing, and if a loss of OD function, I''d think it was possibly a solenoid issue.. Could be a trans overheat/temp sensor issue as well.. Slip/ratio could be a reason fo the lamp indication as well. Being you state that the cruise RPM''s are now higher, would indicate that the OD is canceled..

Has the tranny ever had the fluid/filter been changed?  I have seen tired fluid cause selonoids not operate properly.  If you do a tranny flush, make sure that you go the extra mile/cost and drop the pan cover to replace the filter.
