Hello all-

I have a 2002 Ford Focus (basic)  with 109 k and my antifreeze is disappearing.  It''s not leaking out (no spots on the pavement) and I have no idea where it is going.  In two weeks it went from max to almost min mark.  My car is not running hot (the temp gauge is in the middle as always) and I don''t smell anything funny.  Any ideas?  I want to try to fix it before it causes other issues.

Thanks!

I don''t know, but I''m having the same problem with my 2000, and have been for over a year.  Using the strategy of the cheaper things first, I noticed that the thermostat housing is a likely suspect.  I''m going to take that off and check the gasket for a tight seal before delving into anything more complex or expensive like a water pump.

would be a good idea to check the t-stat and gasket, but be sure to check the housing also. have seen alot of problems with them.

I would bet on it the t-stat housing. I just replaced one on my 2000 Focus ZTS $65 at the dealer (in stock too) Mine also was leaking antifreeze but not on the ground. It looked like it was burning off before it reached the ground. Do you have a strong antifreeze oder under the hood or in the driver wheel well?
