Hi all, I just joined today and thought I would say hello to everyone, I live in PA originally from Ireland. I have a 2001 Ford Expedition 5.4 EB and I came across this great site researching information on how to fix my truck. For the past 5 days it would start when you turned the key in the ignition, then it would immediately die, this was starting the engine from cold. However, if you kept your foot on the gas to about 1000 rpm for about 10 minutes until the engine warmed up and then take your foot off the gas it would idle normally with no hesitation. It was not giving any codes when I put the reader on it, I had the battery and alternator checked and they were fine. I thought I had a bad ignitional coil pack on cylinder seven so I replaced it and I still had the same problem. I was stumped and thought I would have to bring it to Ford until I read an article that police cars that sit idling for several hours a day develop bad Idle Air Control valves quickly and the description of the problem fit mine to a T, so I thought that I may have a bad Idle Air Control valve. I got my hands on a manual and found that it was supposed to be located on top of the throttle body but I did not see it there. After a lot of frustration and a few days later I eventually found it way back in the engine in a very cramped and hard to reach place. I removed it and sprayed carb cleaner into it, cleaned it with some Q tips then blew compressed air into it. After installing it back in the truck I turned the key and it fired right up without any hesitation, idling properly. Sorry for the long winded post, I am a hobby mechanic and hope to learn a lot from people here on the forum and maybe share some useful information to help others. Thanks Flavery79
