Hi all, I am getting a check engine light on my 98 Ranger. The trouble code is p0401 (insufficient egr flow). My question is, several forum members have mentioned that the DPFE sensor might be the culprit. What does DPFE stand for??? Where exactly is the DPFE sensor located? Thanks for your help. John

The DPFE on my 97' is located on the drivers side, in an area behind the EGR. It is a small rectangular box with vacuum hoses attached. The original was made of aluminum and rusts on the inside. The replacement is plastic. I think DPFE stands for Diferential Pressure FeedbackExhaust.

newbe here....I have a '94 Thunderbird with the same problem...engine light came on and now the dealer says is the DPFE sensor. The dealer says is $600+ bucks but they need to "clean" the ducts which will add 4.5 hours and raise the bill up to $800+ !!!! He says that if they do not clean the ducts, they light will just came back on. Suggestions! Yelp! Recommend another place or what I should tell them at the dealership? Thanks! hb
