i have a question you may be able to answer ,
i have a 1990 thunderbird supercoupe which needs a transmission , a buddy has an aod out of a lincoln laying in the yard with an id code of : pkacp4016780j18e6vpac
was wondering if you could decipher this code and tell me if it would be a direct fit or would there be modifications involved ???

First I would ask your buddy what engine the AOD was hooked up to. Four, six and V-8 transmissions are each made to handle power differently and with different balance. What engine was hooked to it is your first and easiest indication what you may be able to bolt it to. For example a four cylinder AOD won''t do so good on a V-8 but may handle a V-6 if bell housing will bolt up the same. Which leads to number two - check bell housing bolts (number and arrangement) to determine if it''s a direct fit to your engine block or not. This eliminates the need for time consuming parts number searches.
