Hello all, I''m a "wanna be" newbie to deisels.  I''m thinking about purchasing an F-250 but I''m hearing a lot of people say "stay away from the 6.0L deisel, they are trouble".  But if I do, then I''m being told that I have to settle for a 2003 or older truck with a 7.3L.  Can anyone here point me in the right direction?  I really don''t want to buy an too much of a older truck at this point.  What I was originally looking at was 2005, F-250 6.0L 4x4 loaded with towing package.  I recently bought a fifth wheel and currently towing it with a 2000 F-150 4x4.  The fifth wheel only weighs 6800lbs, so it''s not too heavy and the f150 tows it fine except the mileage is about 7.5 - 8.0 and I''d like to get a little more and less stress on my truck.  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I have got a 2000 with a 7.3, My friend has got a 2005 with a 6.0. Both are chipped and both are drivers as well as workers, but neither has had a problem. With a chip set up he has a little more power that I do, but I get a little better fuel milage. So the way I see it is" Its a toss up"

Hi, I have a 2003 f-350 crew cab with 8 bed and single axle with 6.0 diesel. I get with full bed of equipment around town 17.5 or so and on highway at about 75 mph 20 to 21 miles a gallon. No chip just plain jane with 17 inch wheels. Hope this gives you any info you might have.

We have an 04 F350 4 door dually with the 6.0. It does great! We just returned from a 5K road trip and the truck handles super and we had no problems. We pull a 3 horse slant.

I have a 2006 F-350 Crew Cab long bed dually with a 6.0 diesel that I tow a 40'' fifth wheel camper with. I have 30,000 miles on it with no problems. I have driven from New Hampsnire to Florida and back twice and have been to Illinois twice with the truck. It goes great over the road. It has 4.10 gears, and is completley stock. Empty the fuel milage is in the 15 to 16 MPG range, pulling the camper it gets 12.5 MPG. The truck weighs 8000# and is no slouch however a little better empty fuel  milage would be nice.

I''m glad some people are having good luck with their 6.0L. My friend is currently going to court with ford over his. He Is very good with his maintance and has alot of problems. He tows alot and has been stuck out of town may times. He has a 07 f350 4x4 dually w/100,000miles. He has gone though 3 turbos, 13 injectors, and other minor engine items. I tell friends that want to buy them to just watch out.
