I'm buying a '97 F-250 or F-350 4x4 PSD Crewcab (if my truck ever sells). I need the goods and bads of both the auto and manual trannies. Any other info on these trucks would be helpful too. Thanx!

auto trans is good if you live in the city you dont have to shift gears in lines of traffic, And manual trans is proven to get better gas milage, easier on all drive-train, Those are my opinion.

I prefer the 6spd myself, that way not many people will ask to use it to move also, many people get confused with the granny gear which is great for the soft sand of the OBX, NC. But most urban cowboys prefer the auto because its easy and generally you may tow upto 1000 lbs more.

In my opinion manuals are far better because of gas mileage, you have more control, they last a hell of a lot longer, and when they do brake are easier and less expensive to fix, they are also more fun to drive!! I own a 77 highboy F250 that i bought with a 400M and a C6(auto tranny) in it, the tranny isn't bad, but it doesn't put the power to the ground well, so im doing a manual conversion. so save yourself the trouble and just buy a manual to begin with. one more examle and then im done, my dad has a 2001 Toyota Tacoma that has 180,000 miles and nothing has been done to it but changing the oil, tires, and brakes!!! My mom even drives a 2001 Honda CRV that is also a stick!!! Well i hope you make the right choice and go with the stick, and good luck!!!
