Ok, i bought this truck off a buddy of mine....

1988 Ford F-250, 4-speed, I-6 (Big 300)

It has no muffler, cat.converter, or shift pattern (shifter moves all around, but shifts right)

It runs very rough (could use a tuneup) ...burns oil every 1000 miles, burns antifreeze the same. Comes with a hitch+reciever on the back.

I payed $100 bucks for it...mainly for hauling hay in the back fields...good deal?

There is rust and dents, yes, but no body rusting through...just rusting on the surface

How the hell do you fix a shift pattern? He told me you'd need to drop the tranny...and First Gear isnt accessable without it (you'd have to rip off the dashboard to get it in properly)

are you famillar with rebuilting manual trannys? Would be worth getting another tranny from the junk yard,

I dont think a tune up will do anything for the engine, It sounds like the engine needs rebuilding, Great work truck, Just get another engine from the junk yard as well or rebuild it, Then It work be a good work truck.

Good Luck

if u have the same setup i do, that 300 and 4 sp, 1st gear will get u like 10 mph max. (i have an 84) i say just throw some of that anti-freeze sealant and use some of the Lucas oil tratment and grab a tranny out of the junkyard, and ull be good to go. if ur gonna use it for a farm truck, u got the right Ford for it and a good deal. that 300 WILL take a beating. just dont take it on the road too much.
