My Ranger went through a phase like this once not long after changing the fuel pump. I jumped the tilt switch, still did it. I checked every relay and all the wiring. I finally reached up to the top of the tank the best I could with it still in place and the plug for the fuel pump didn't feel like it was on all the way. I pushed it on better and didn't seem to ever have that problem again. ??? It seemed that the plug was making a bad connection that would be affected by the heat of the pump ... I guess ??? Anyway I sure got tired of sitting on the side of the road waiting for the fuel pump to cool down. So whatever, make sure that that crazy plug is connecting the very best it possibly can. ( I was fully prepared to SOLDER mine on)
