WHEN IT IS BELOW -6F OR -20C A LOUD METAL SCREETCHING SOUND....LIKE A TRAIN ON TRACKS..... COMES FROM THE REAR END. IT GOES AWAY AFTER A COUPLE OF MINUTES. FORD DEALSERSHIP HAS LOOKED AT IT AND SAID EVERYTHING WAS FINE, BUT I STILL GOT THE FLUID CHANGED. THERE WHERE NO FILLINGS, AND THE OIL DIDNT LOOK BAD. THE DRUMS ARE FINE TOO.?????
PLEASE LET ME KNOW. THANKS

I had problems with my 97 F 150. I had more of a whirling type noise at high speed. End result was the bearings were going bad. I let it go and eventually my right rear outer bearing failed and blew apart. I heard the noise get much louder but only had a few miles to get home. It was raining and foggy out and I was on country roads so I didn't really notice the smoke screen I had to have been leaving as the bearing was completely gone and the axle was riding on the outer race. Well end result was I got home and got out to check it and within a few moments the heat from lack of a bearing and the oil that spewed everywhere created a nice fire. For some reason I ran inside and got a fire extinguisher and put out the flame and then cooled down the area with the garden hose. I should have just let her burn as the repairs was a pain in the arse and she had some mileage on her.

All that probably doesn't help but I guess the moral to the story is if you ignore a issue long enough it can build to be a real problem

Todd
