Hi there..

I'm currently driving a 97 F 150 but woke up one morning finding myself wanting an SUV. And since I almost always listen to the voices in my head....... It's time for a covered, lockable bed that dogs can't jump out of and thieves can't reach into. I was leaning towards a used Lexus RX 300 but members of that forum warned against it. The Expedition is second on my list of options. I need it to tow a bass boat and would really like 4 wheel drive (I have previous issues with wet boat ramps; my paranoia isn't subsiding) but higher cost 4x4 parts are of concern. I know that with my 92 F 250 4x2 the prices of some items almost doubled from F 150 parts..

Does anyone out there have some advice on 4x2 and 4x4 costs of maintenance? Horror stories? Fortunately I live with a certified mechanic so the majority of my worry is the cost of parts and frequency of repairs.

Knocking on my wooden head, Ford has not treated me wrong (except for the heater core of a 97 Taurus going plooey on me in January... in Chicago... 40 miles from home.........)

I'm looking at the 2001 model because of the newness, the cost and the fuel mileage (14/18 miles, I hope is correct?) I know that what the dealer says it gets isn't always so so your opinions would be greatly appreciated..
