Hey all I got a 1985 f-150 with a 302 carbed in it.

I just replaced the valve covers and replaced the header gaskets. I started it the other night and my headers were GLOWING red, luckily I turned it off in time before it hurt anything. I have no idea what is wrong, oil is full and brand new as is the radiator fluid.

If anyone can help me with this matter I would greatly aprreciate it.

First thing I'd do is check the timing, has it backfired or dieseled ( tried to run backwards) when you shut it off, if so it may have jumped time then you'll most likely need to change the timing chain and gears.

If your running headers dont get too concerned..the exhaust coming out of the heads is well over 600F degrees and metal especially the thin material that headers are made from (14 Gauge and thinner) will glow at that temperature. I have seen cast iron manifolds glow at night also.
