Hello, new to the forum.

My 21 year old son moved 120 miles away from home a few months back. Told him not to since I'm not there to help. He doesn't know anyone there eitehr. Now he's got a problem, maybe.

He has a '98 ford ranger 4x4, 6 cyl, automatic. Been driving around today, got it home. Next time he tries to go out, no start. He said the gas gauge is in the red, but not on zero.

Told him to check with a neighbor to see if they have a couple gallons of gas or starter fluid to begin with. He has limited mechanical experience. From here I can't tell if he lost spark or fuel.

I'm no ford expert anyway. Is there a common problem, fuse, balast resister, something, that commonly causes a no start condition?

Thanks.

have him check the battery cables to make sure they are on tight. make sure the battery is not dead (maybe he left lights on or something). that is all i can think of that he will be able to do on his own. but you might suggest checkin the starter, alternator, and see if there is a spark or not.

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it. Turned out he just ran out of gas. Walked all over town before finding a gas station with a gas can. Said when he put in a gallon, the gauge dropped from 1/8th to zero. Tank unit must have been stuck. Bet he fills up at 1/2 a tank for a while now.

Thanks again.
