We are shopping around for a new car and SUV for 2007. We are strongly considering the Mercury Mountaineer and Montengo. We like them because they both have AWD and the features we need. We went to the local dealer to look at them and sit in them and we notice one thing on the Mountaineer that we find to be very undesirable. It has a fixed antenna, which is no good since we bring our car to get washed and we don't want to be bothered removing it. So I was wondering if asked will the dealer install a power retracting antenna to replace this fixed antenna. I would bring it to a aftermarket place to get it done but the guy insists its better to lease over paying for it then and there. So I don't think we would be allowed to do this. Also does the Montengo have a fixed antenna if so we would have to do the same. But I wonder why would Ford cut corners like this? I seen really cheap cars and suv's that have either integrated antennas or power retractable antennas, even my 15 year old car has a power retractable antenna.
