Car cuts out

Hi, I ahve an m reg fiesta 1.3. Its suffering with some odd symtoms. WHen drivingh aloong the engine will just cut out. Also when I try to start the engine, if its cold it starts fine, but if I have left it for 10 minutes or so it can have real trouble starting. It turns over but will not start for a while. If I leave it for 20 mins or so it starts fine. Any ideas?

Does the engine shut down instantly or does it spudder a little before it stalls? If it spudders it could be something simple like the Gas cap. Many vehicles have vented gas caps which if bad can create a vacuum as the engine pulls fuel from the tank which if the suction gets strong enough could stall the car and not allow it to restart until it weakens enough for the fuel to pump to overpower the suction. I have seen lots of gas caps cause simular problems, not that its for sure the case on your vehicle, but for $3.00 - $5.00 may be worth a try. If it instantly cuts out without spuddering first then I would look more at the electrical side of things.
