I have an '01 Explorer with the 4L V6. Milage is just over 50K. Twice in the last month my engine has cut out on me at high speed while on the highway. Both times the engine had been running for at least one hour. Fuel tank was at least half full. The air temperature was in the 40s and I was doing 60-65 mph. I don't think it was vapor lock, or bad gas. In both cases the engine seemed to keep running, but completely loose power. In both cases it seemed to re-engage within about 5-6 seconds. All electricals and power accessories retained power. In the first instance I was accelerating/passing an 18-wheeler and was scared to death when it went out. I decided to wait to see if anything else happened before acting.
It happened again this past weekend. I was cruising down the open highway at a steady speed when the engine just seemed to loose power. Just as I got to the shoulder it seemed to kick back in.
Other than light bulbs and front suspension I have had no problems or repairs.
Anybody have any ideas what this is? Is my computer going? Transmission?
Thanks,
John
