The same Ranger with the 401 engine code needs a new clutch. How hard is it to change the clutch or better, getting the tranny out on one of these trucks? It is a 3.0 v-6 4X2. Time is not problem, I have air tools, tranny jacks, the clutch. I changed the clutch before on my '66 Falcon with its original 283, then with a 289 and now with a 351C. the ranger seems to have many little pieces parts that the Falcon just doesn't have.

Try changing the clutch on a 4WD tranny. (keep in mind it came factory with a borg and warner)
Now thats a pain in the @$$

josser, I don't think you'll have any problems. Just keep track of all the parts you remove and how the go. And of course don't forget to properly line up the clutch plate.

thanks guys, it was not as hard as it looked! loosened the transmission and slid it back 6 or so inches, took the old clutch out and noticed leaking slave cylinder, replaced all parts clean flywheel and pressure plate with emery cloth and put it all back together, not to mention bleeding the system and it works fine.

I have a 97 3.0l B3000 4X4 which I wont go near. However yours being a 2wheel drive it shouldnt be to hard.
