MY 2005 FORD FOCUS WAGON'S BRAKES MAKE A LOUD WHISTLING SOUND WHEN I APPLY MY BRAKES. I WAS TOLD THIS IS NORMAL!!! CAN SOMEONE TELL ME IF THIS IS TRUE? IT'S VERY ANNOYING. THE PROBLEM STARTED ABOUT 8000 MILES, THE DEALER CHANGED THE BRAKE PADS AND TOLD ME THAT THE ROTORS ARE VERY THIN ON THE FOCUS. THE PROBLEM DIDN'T GO AWAY. I DON'T THINK THIS IS NORMAL, AND HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW WHEN I'M REALLY HAVING A PROBLEM WITH MY BRAKES. I GUESS BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE AND WILL COST A FORTUNE TO FIX OR WORSE. PLEASE HELP

I just bought a 2003 wagon with 28K on it. My brakes squeak also - on a normal stop from about 20mph down to 0. Not overly loud, but it's annoying.

is it coming from the front or from the back the rear has a tsb that you add weights to the back of the backing plate to stop the squeal.

The most common place where i've heard the brake noise if from the rear drums. All I did was get a can of brake cleaner, put the plastic tube extension right in between the outside and inside part of the drum and sprayed away. Gone pretty easily. Oh yeah, i took my wheel off and rotated the drum around also.

Yeah, that's what it was. The little weights just came in. Now have to schedule appt.
(Had to SHOW the service writer the TSB, though, He didn't have a clue.)
.
LINDADIPIETRO - I can fax (or maybe e-mail the TSB to you. Send me a PM.
